2011 - #47 - Nuttscorner Oval - 27/12/11
I set off at the start of 2011 thinking that I'd like to get to 50 meetings, it's no magical individual achievement, I'm sure there is plenty who top 50 meetings and some who'll go to nearly 100, but I thought 50 would be a nice number to aim at.
I didn't quite achieve the 50 meeting target, but a snowed off meeting at Cowdie I went over for in March and a late decision not to bother with the Ipswich Spedeweekend would have been all it would have taken to have done it.

On to the festive meeting at Nuttscorner Oval then, meeting #47. Santa had brought me a new Tamron lens, and 18-200mm, a lens which should be as long as I need for oval racing, while being short enough to get good close up grid shots, banger wrecks, winners shots and things like that without the need to change lenses all the time. For those who haven't used an SLR, a zoom lens twists to zoom in and out rather than you pushing a button, the Tamron lens twists the opposite way to zoom to my Canon and Sigma lenses, this felt quite unnatural to me and throughout the day I found myself zooming out of shots I wanted to zoom in on, and zooming in too close when I wanted to zoom out.

The racing itself brought a turnout of 12 robins, a little disappointing that more cars attended the Aghadowey meeting than the Irish Championship, but still probably the biggest field of the year. Billy McLean took the title, while the biggest action of the day came when Ryan Wright and Lyle Watson rolled in turn two.

To quote one of the drivers on the vans, "it was the worst van meeting there had been", I felt that was a pretty complete summary. Stevo McGarth won the Ulster Championship, or whatever it was they were racing for.

In the other classes, there was final wins for Jack Gilpin (Junior Productions), David McMenemy (2 Litre Hot Rods), Davy Clarke (Lightning Rods) and Stuart Agnew (ProStocks).
Other noteworthy happens include Mark Heatrick racing the ex Davy McCall Tigra 2 Litre Hot Rod, Ian McReynolds was out in an ex Heatrick 2 Litre Saxo, Ally McDonald came across from Scotland for the ProStocks, his third visit of the year, and Derek McMillan raced a Junior Production for the last time.
